Rakdos is the color combination of black and red. It is named for the Cult of Rakdos on the plane of Ravnica.

Popular Rakdos commanders include Anje Falkenrath, Rakdos, Lord of Riots, and Grenzo, Dungeon Warden.

Identity

Rakdos is the embodiment of hedonism. Rakdos will do whatever it thinks it should, regardless of what other people think. Morality is a concept that has no power over Rakdos, and they hold no great love for anyone besides themselves. This system means that Rakdos can do things that other colors wouldn’t dream of doing, but it gives them incredible short-sightedness, with no ambition beyond the current moment.

Popular Rakdos Strategies

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Rakdos can be exceptionally quick, able to significantly injure or even eliminate opponents before they have the chance to establish their primary plans. Rakdos also excels at forcing opponents into exceptionally difficult positions, where no matter what action they take - including taking no action at all - that opponent is likely to lose life, resources, or both.

Weaknesses

Neither red nor black are consistently able to remove enchantments from the battlefield, which may make them prey to enemies who use a large number of them in their decks. Red and black can produce aggressive strategies, but this may make them susceptible to mass removal and control strategies that may thwart that aggression in favor of a longer game, which Rakdos may not have the stamina to keep up with. Rakdos colors also occasionally struggle with forms of ramp, as red's temporary mana boosts and black's swamp-centric forms of mana advantage sometimes do not complement each other, which forces the color pair to rely more on mana rocks to progress its mana production.
